New Balance 996 Spring 2010

The New Balance 996 brings back memories. It was the first running shoe to cost more than $100, even before Nike. The 996 was THE running shoe to have in the late ’80s & early ’90s. Recently, the New Balance Japan Team has reintroduced the shoe giving it a newer, updated look.

For Spring 2010, New Balance is releasing the 996 is available in two new colorways, both of which feature a gradient-blending color scheme. The first pair fades from purple toe to a white mid to a silver heel. The second starts with a white toe which fades to blue and then black. These are a for-sure cop for any New Balance head for the New Year.

We’re loving the Burgundy scheme, with its suede uppers, and patent leather straps. The laces are in burgundy leather, as is Supra’s tradition and the soles are done in white with two stripes. The Blue Crackle is done in a similar fashion, only that the soles are done in apple green and the straps are leather, not patent. The Blue Crackle’s laces are in black which adds an interesting mix to the shoe. It doesnt seem so out of place as one might think, it goes together pretty nicely.

These kicks will drop in a couple of months so keep checking your favorite retailers nationwide. Also, we’re expecting the release of the Gold, White and Black versions of this shoe, as seen above. But Blue Crackle and Burgundy are our favorites.
